Social Media is Going Nuts over Verizon's New Name for Yahoo-AOL

Verizon just made a big promise -- literally.

When the company completes its purchase of Yahoo, it will combine it with AOL under the new brand name Oath. Predictably, the Twitterverse has had much to say:

  • #OATH because anyone still using Yahoo or AOL in 2017 has to admit to it or commit perjury of E-mail.
  • .@Verizon had to wait till after April Fool's Day to announce #Oath, because #branding that bad looks like a joke. #marketing #naming
  • LOLOMGWTF would actually be a better name. #Oath#bizchat#techchat#marketing
  • #AOL and #Yahoo merger company will be called #Oath because "Crap" was already taken.
  • Soon enough your grandma will be logging into her #Oath mail. Sounds like Hotmail, just not hot.

CEO Tim Armstrong says the new entity will roll out this summer. (USA Today)
