It is the late summer of 2001...Blake was in Norfolk, Virginia as the opening act for Kenny.  Kenny Rogers.  Before the show, my ex-wife and I are visiting with Blake in his dressing room.  Kenny's road manager comes in and asks Blake, "You're not planning on singing Ol' Red tonight, are you?  Kenny was going to do it in his set."

Consider the time: Austin had recently gone to number one, and he was setting up Ol' Red, a cover of the George Jones song, to be his next single.  So Kenny Rogers was asking him to NOT perform one of the two songs the audience could possibly know!

Blake replies, "No, tell Mr. Rogers I wasn't planning on doing that one tonight."  After the road manager leaves, he turns to me and says, "What was I gonna do?  Tell Kenny Rogers I was going to do his song?"

No, I guess not.
