We learned today that singer-songwriter Sammy Johns passed away Friday (1/4) in Gastonia, NC. He was 66. As a performer, Johns was best known for his 1975 Top 10 pop hit, "Chevy Van." As a songwriter he found success on Country radio with two No. 1 hits, John Conlee's "Common Man" in 1983 and Conway Twitty's "Desperado Love" in 1986. Additionally, Waylon Jennings took "America" to No. 6 in 1984. Services are scheduled for tomorrow (1/9) in Belmont, NC.
