Man vs. Food

Schmidt’s The “Experts” on German Food! The true flavor of German Village!

Greetings from German Village, the largest, privately funded restoration project in the country. Schmidt's Restaurant and Banquet Haus located in a national registered historic sight, offers you traditional German-American fare served with Legendary Hospitality.

You can find Schmidt's in a historic brick livery stable at 240 E. Kossuth St. and Purdy Alley, (the jog in Kossuth St. follows and old stream bed). Schmidt's Restaurant und Sausage Haus is the culmination of an old German family business started in Columbus in 1886.

Schmidt's specializes in original German and American dinners, sandwiches, mouth watering desserts, cocktails, and many German and micro brews by the bottle and on tap. We also feature beautiful upstairs banquet and meeting rooms as well as live German and American music on select nights.

Many of Schmidt's recipes have been developed by the Schmidt Family over the past 112 years. These items are unique to Schmidt's and can be found only in our Restaurant and Banquet Haus.

Current Featured Acts:

Schnickelfritz: This dynamic duo Has been considered the "Haus" band at Schmidt's since 1979.

They can also be found each year at the largest Oktoberfest in the Country just 2 hours Southwest of Columbus, in Cincinnati.

To date, the highlight of the bands musical experience was being asked by Disney World to perform at Epcot Center in the German Pavilion.

Squeeezin' N' Wheezin': Leader Michael Farrenkopf was born to German immigrants in Columbus, Ohio. As a youngster, he quickly became familiar with high-spirited German music.

He began performing at Schmidt's in 1978 and convinced his brother Martin to join him to form the duo. It was a match that worked and the duo has provided Schmidt's with their "gemutlichkeit" party atmosphere ever since.

Although the band has been known to accept invitations to tour Germany and Northern Italy, you can see them right here at Schmidt's, every Thursday and Friday night - Creating an Oktoberfest feeling all year long!

Live music Wednesday - Thursday beginning @ 7:00pm,
Friday & Saturday beginning @ 8:00pm.
